That Stupid Kid

Today in traffic (for what little there is in Alaska) a younger teenage boy

ZOOMED by me only to merge in front of me, almost cutting me off. My first reaction

was to get pissed off, and call him an asshole, but then I thought of the good ol' days,

when I was young and invincible. The master of all I could see and control (and even

some of the things I couldn't). No fear, no thoughts of bad events, just pure enjoyment of life

and thinking as far ahead as the next party, or date that I may have later that week.

We all have been there, beyond the age of innocence, but still brazen

enough to jump in with both feet and deal with the consequences head on, and jump we all did

at one time or another. My question to all of you is "are you better for it?". The way I see

it is that we all have made mistakes, but you must look at it this way; I did what I

thought best, at that time, with what circumstances I had. Maybe I am a strange man

but I live without regrets or thoughts of what could have been. Lets face it folks, if the queen

had balls she'd be king, and there is nothing you can do to change the past, the past

put you to the present, and the present takes you to the future. Your present is all that

you control.

As I watched this fearless teen shoot in and out of traffic and finally disappear,

I shook my head, smiled slightly, wished him luck and continuing on my journey.

Is there a moral to this bout of rambling?

If I had to make one up I guess that it would be that I

haven't changed in attitude (I still like to do stupid stuff for kicks)

I just have more to lose now.

So next time you see that punk kid, cut him some slack;

because someone probably thought the same thing about you

at sometime.
