I
would like to welcome you to another Editor Rambling. This week
I would like to talk to you all about the wonderful world of drug
addiction. That is right kiddies, this will be your one stop true
story of what it is all about. Lets face it there are those of
you out there that will understand everything I am about to wright,
but there are those out there that have never been in contact
with such things; there are others that maybe considering entering
this world. If you are one of the later do wish that you take
my testimony to heart. If you fall into one of the other classes
then please just give this the once over and maybe pass it on
to someone who really needs it.
Let
me tell you what sparked this issue. The other day I read an article
about marijuana being a "gateway drug", meaning it opens
people up to trying other narcotics. Who the hell wrights this
stuff? Every time I read one of these 'expert commentaries",
I picture some plaid wearing, pencil pushing geek, who never did
more than missionary position the once or twice they've been laid
(much less partied hard enough to know what the fuck their talking
about). I have taken it upon myself to wright the following, no
masters degree, no senior theses, no bulshit.
Lets
just start with marijuana shall we. Pot, weed, smoke, whatever
you call it the effects are the same. basically you smoke this
stuff and it makes you pretty lethargic and you want to laugh
at everything. the users of this drug are more nature types, in
love with peace and not apt to doing much of anything. This drug
has caused allot of controversy in the legalization arenas, to
legalize marijuana or not to legalize it that is the debate. Well
my opinion (and you know I have one) is that, there are pros and
cons. On one hand you can legalize it then tax the shit out of
it (something I know all politicians have contemplated I'm sure),
but then again how do you regulate the DUI thing, or usage in
the workplace. There is no exact test for the time frame of usage
for this drug, the test will just say you have used in the past
30 days. Then there is that whole gateway thing. When people talk
to me about it all I can think about is the crime rate, people
don't fight over what is legal, and the last thing a high criminal
wants to do is get up and go robe something or someone; to a person
under the influence of this drug that would be a fate worse than
death.
Then
we come to methanfetamien, speed. This stuff is a totally other
world than the above. Imagine being up as long as you want to
be 2 maybe 10 days, more? no problem just smoke, snort, or inject
more. Your sanity is what you risk here, after a while you tend
to get paranoid, jumpy, and of coarse broke (because everything
you had you shoved up your nose). A little known fact is that
the first real potent speed was developed by the Nazi army in
WWII, they would give it to their troops so they would be up and
fight with the utmost vigor for 2 days straight; and that stuff
wasn't half as potent as the stuff some of these Yahoos are cooking
in their backyards.
Next
is Cocaine, basically the same as above minus the WWII stuff.
Oh and it costs 10 times as much and takes twice as much to get
off. Not a good choice for the pour starving masses, but if you
can afford it, it will treat you (and leave you) just like them.
Moving
on we come to the in between drugs. The in between stuff is all
of that rare stuff that you get your hands on just to say (and
feel) that you've tried it. This is where most people don't make
it, because their not just doing the in between stuff, their mixing
it with one or two (or all) of the above. Heroin, Mescaline, uppers,
downers, PCP, you name it; at this point if you can find it you'll
try it. Ahhh the life of a trash can, a little bit of everything,
just make sure you get emptied and not thrown away with the shit
that's in you.
Then
we come to Acid, you know the halusagens. Nothing is better than
putting a little piece of paper on your tongue and, whalla, 45min
to an hour later you can see aliens, dragons, whatever. Is it
really like this? Not really, the minds perception is very powerful,
and you can trick yourself into seeing anything you want. It is
more like everything is enhanced. The biggest thing to remember
if this stuff is to be played with, "you are the one that
is fucked up, not the world. If you think a tree is attacking
you, its not its all in your mind, it's still just a tree. LSD
(acid) came from some scientist who were asked to explore its
use for brainwashing techniques for the US government. Till one
day one of these scientists started using it for fun (ohh sorry,
"mind expansion"). The mans name? Timothy Leary. Way
to go Tim, the 60s thanks you. Word of warning kiddies, acid is
a federal offense. That's right one hit (one dose) of this stuff
is 10 years in the federal pen; if they can prove intent to sell.........its
first degree murder with intent to kill. Who said fun was cheap.
Then
if you survive all of that, you will someday realize (when you
hit rock bottom) that you put everything you owned up your nose,
and its really hard to tell between reality and hallucination.
At this point you will quit, it may take a few tries, and it,
of coarse, will suck; shakes, chills, lost friends, and basically
a total rebuild of you life. Here is about where you decide that
smoking pot is about the only thing that was fun about the whole
experience, so you just stick to that.
Down
the road if all goes well and you work at making something out
of yourself you will eventually give up marijuana to. So once
again someone asked me if I thought pot was a beginner drug? To
me my young grasshoppers, it is the end drug.
Take
it one day at a time my friends, and if any of you identify with
the above and think you fall right about in the middle, check
out the "stuff that rules" page. Maybe to early, maybe
to late, maybe not needed at all, but always food for thought.
You'll know it when you see it, please go in peace and may the
powers that be keep you safe from the evils that are yourself.
Dedicated to Tony Rocko, and other
friends that will be greatly missed. You saved my life and influenced
me in ways you may never imagine or come to appreciate. I owe
many things to you, and you will forever be a part of the things
that made me the man I am today.
